Sometimes We All Need a Helping Hand

Life doesn’t always go according to plan.

An unexpected illness. A job loss. A utility bill that can’t wait. An empty refrigerator. A child who needs something the family simply cannot afford. A senior struggling to make ends meet.

Whatever brought you here, please know that Mountain Heart Ministries was created to serve individuals and families in the Appalachian communities of Southeast Kentucky and Northeast Tennessee with compassion, dignity and respect.

PLEASE NOTE:  ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS ARE NOT YET OPEN.  Mountain Heart Ministries is currently being established and our assistance programs are not yet accepting applications.

We are building the resources, partnerships and funding necessary to serve our communities responsibly. As individual programs become available, application information will be posted on this page.

Please check back with us.

How Can We Help?

Mountain Heart Ministries is developing several programs designed to meet different needs within the communities we serve.

Once applications open, you will be able to choose the program below that most closely matches your situation. Each program will have its own application so we can ask only the questions necessary to understand your particular need.

Additional Programs

Mountain Heart Ministries will continue developing programs as resources become available and as we learn more about the needs within the communities we serve.

New assistance opportunities will be added here as they become available.

What Kind of Help Will Be Available?

Assistance will vary depending upon individual circumstances, available resources and the programs offered by Mountain Heart Ministries.

Sometimes Mountain Heart may be able to help directly.

Sometimes another organization may already have a program specifically designed for a particular need. When possible, we hope to help connect people with those resources as well.

Our goal is to help find the right help—not simply to hand out money.

Every Situation Is Different

There isn’t a checklist that can tell us everything about someone’s circumstances.

Two families may appear to have the same need but have completely different stories behind it.

That’s why Mountain Heart Ministries believes in listening first.

We want to understand the person—not simply process an application.

Who Will Be Eligible?

Mountain Heart Ministries will primarily serve individuals and families living within our designated service area in Southeast Kentucky and Northeast Tennessee.

When our programs begin accepting applications, assistance may be based upon:

  • Individual circumstances
  • Available ministry resources
  • Geographic eligibility
  • The nature and urgency of the need
  • Other resources that may already be available

Submitting an application will not guarantee assistance.

Help With Dignity

Asking for help can be difficult.

We understand that.

You will not be asked to tell your story publicly, pose for photographs, or allow your circumstances to be used for fundraising in exchange for assistance.

Your difficult season does not define you.

Our desire is simply to help where we can and treat every person who comes to Mountain Heart Ministries with the dignity we would want for ourselves and our own families.

When Applications Open

Each Mountain Heart program will have its own application.

After receiving an application:

1. We Review the Need
A member of Mountain Heart Ministries will review the information provided.

2. We May Contact You
We may need additional information or simply want to better understand the circumstances.

3. We Explore Available Resources
We will determine whether Mountain Heart can assist directly or whether another community organization may be better equipped to help.

4. We Let You Know
We’ll contact the applicant regarding the request whenever possible.

Not Sure Which Program Fits Your Situation?

That’s okay.

Once our assistance programs are operating, if you aren’t sure where your need belongs, contact Mountain Heart Ministries and tell us a little about what’s happening. We’ll help you determine where to begin.
