Mountain Heart Ministries is a Christian nonprofit ministry created to serve individuals and families in the Appalachian communities of Southeast Kentucky and Northeast Tennessee.

Our purpose is simple: to see needs, listen to people and help where we can.

We believe meaningful assistance begins by recognizing the person behind the need. A difficult season in someone’s life should never diminish their dignity, and receiving help should never make someone feel less valued.

Our Mission

Mountain Heart Ministries exists to provide compassionate, practical assistance to individuals and families experiencing hardship while helping strengthen the communities we serve.

We seek to meet immediate needs when necessary, connect people with available resources and, whenever possible, help create opportunities that lead toward greater stability and independence.

Sometimes people need help getting through today. Sometimes they need an opportunity to change tomorrow. We believe both matter.

Our Approach

Mountain Heart Ministries was founded on a simple belief:

Listen first. Help second.

Numbers and applications can tell us part of someone’s situation, but they rarely tell the whole story.

We want to understand what is actually needed before deciding what kind of help makes sense.

That may mean providing assistance directly. It may mean connecting someone with an existing community resource. It may mean working with a church, school, business or another organization. And sometimes it may mean finding a solution we haven’t thought of before.

The goal isn’t simply to distribute resources.

The goal is to make those resources matter.

More Than a Handout

There are times when immediate assistance is exactly what someone needs.

A hungry family needs food. A senior without heat needs help. A child shouldn’t go without an essential item simply because the family cannot afford it.

We believe those needs matter.

But whenever possible, Mountain Heart Ministries also wants to look beyond the immediate problem.

Can we help remove an obstacle?

Can we connect someone with an opportunity?

Can we provide something that helps a person become more independent?

Can we strengthen a family or community so the same need is less likely to happen again?

Relief can help someone through a difficult day. Opportunity can help change what comes next.

Rooted in Appalachia

The Appalachian Mountains are more than the geographic area Mountain Heart Ministries serves.

They are communities filled with families, churches, schools, small businesses, traditions and generations of people who have called these mountains home.

We recognize the challenges that exist in many Appalachian communities, but we also recognize their strengths.

Our work begins with respect for both.

Mountain Heart Ministries isn’t here to define these communities by poverty or hardship. We are here to work alongside people, organizations and communities to help meet genuine needs and build upon the strengths already there.

Working Together

We don’t expect Mountain Heart Ministries to do this work alone.

Some needs can best be met by a local food pantry. Others may require a school counselor, church, senior program, tradesperson, healthcare resource, business owner or another nonprofit organization.

That’s why community relationships matter.

We are committed to listening to the people already serving these communities, learning where gaps exist and working together rather than unnecessarily duplicating services that are already available.

Partnership allows limited resources to accomplish more.

Responsible Stewardship

Every donation entrusted to Mountain Heart Ministries represents someone’s decision to help another person.

We take that responsibility seriously.

Our goal is to use financial gifts, donated goods, volunteer time and community resources carefully and purposefully.

We will never measure success simply by how much we distribute.

We want to know that what we provide is needed, useful and making a meaningful difference.

Faith in Action

Mountain Heart Ministries is a Christian ministry.

Our faith calls us to care for people with compassion, humility and love—not merely in words, but through action.

We believe physical needs and spiritual needs both matter, and our Christian faith will remain at the heart of the ministry as it grows.

At the same time, assistance is not conditioned upon a person’s church attendance, denomination or profession of faith.

People will be treated with dignity and respect because that is how we believe people should be treated.

Why Mountain Heart?

Because sometimes the person who needs help isn’t asking loudly.

Sometimes they’re an elderly neighbor quietly doing without.

Sometimes they’re parents trying desperately to stretch one paycheck far enough.

Sometimes they’re children who have learned not to ask for things their family cannot afford.

And sometimes they’re people who don’t fit neatly into an existing program.

Those people matter too.

Mountain Heart Ministries was created to look a little closer, listen a little longer and find practical ways to help whenever resources allow.
